Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or case number entered into a site search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log the search terms entered through those tools.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you send an email, we retain the message to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, our servers receive routine technical details about the visit, including:
- your device's IP address
- browser type and version
- device type and operating system
- pages visited and time spent on each page
- the referring website, if any
- timestamps for page views
Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies, which are small files stored on a device, to understand overall use of the site, such as heavily visited pages and common exit points. Analytics services help aggregate this traffic information. A browser can be set to block cookies, although some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- operating the site and improving page performance
- routing a search request to the relevant partner service
- understanding which pages visitors use
- diagnosing and correcting technical problems
- displaying advertising that may be relevant to a visitor's interests
No Court-Record Data on File
This site does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case records. It offers general Huron County guidance about MiCOURT Case Search, MiCOURT Court Display, the Huron County Clerk, and the courts that maintain records. Michigan court-record access is governed by MCR 8.119, subject to restrictions in statute, court rule, or court order. MCR 1.109(D)(9) protects specified personally identifying information, and MCL 15.232 excludes the judiciary from Michigan FOIA. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party records.
Third-Party Search Partners
The site search boxes are operated by outside companies. Information entered there is handled under the partner's own privacy policy, not this policy. Each partner controls its retention and sharing practices; review that policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
The site links to clerk pages, court portals, MiCOURT routes, legal-aid resources, and third-party search tools. A link opens another website, where that site's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising partners may track activity across websites to deliver targeted ads. That activity occurs on their systems rather than ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Information may be shared with:
- search partners that process a query entered on the site
- analytics providers used to measure traffic and performance
- advertising networks that place ads on the site
- law-enforcement or government authorities when a valid legal order requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard security measures to protect collected information. No internet-connected system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that a security breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If a minor has provided information to us, it will be deleted when identified.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy and consumer-protection law may provide additional rights over information we hold about you. For court records discussed on this site, access follows Michigan Court Rule 8.119 and the relevant court's procedures, not a general Michigan FOIA request under MCL 15.232. At a minimum, you can:
- ask for a copy of information we maintain about you
- ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- request deletion of your information
- opt out of certain forms of data processing
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this policy. A revised version will appear on this page with an updated effective date.
